THE BLACK & CLASSICAL SCHOOLS’ CONCERT

AN INTERACTIVE CONCERT.

Beatrice performs music by Margaret Bonds and tells students the histories and stories behind Negro Spirituals found in the music. Margaret Bonds was a black, classical female composer from 1930s Chicago who drew inspiration from Negro Spirituals for her classical works. Students experience being in a pop up choir; singing negro spirituals and blues together and hearing Beatrice perform the Spiritual Suite by Margaret Bonds
